Captain Brown has 25 years experience in the industry, both afloat and ashore. He spent 14 years at sea, with Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) on Tankers also with Souter Shipping Ltd on Bulk Carriers (Capesize and Geared), through the ranks from Cadet to Master before coming ashore as a Superintendent managing Aframax Tankers, Fleet Manager of VLCC and Panamax tankers .
Holding a Masters degree in Business Administration from Durham University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Ship Superintendency from Lloyds Maritime Academy he is also a Member of the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers and the Nautical Institute. Captain Brown is a qualified ISO 9001 external auditor and an ISM internal auditor. Captain Brown has been involved with the North of England P&I Loss Prevention Working Party.
He has taken part in fund raising sporting events for charitable organizations related to the shipping over a number of years namely the Great North Run for ‘Lifeboats’ and the 24 peaks challenge ‘Seafarers UK’.
